Danny Marona Performing Arts Scholarship


The Danny Marona Performing Arts Scholarship Regional Competition was held last night at the Roper Auditorium. CONGRATULATIONS to Tess Gregg with her performance of See, I'm Smiling from The Last Five Years. Tess won 1st place and a $1500 scholarship. The 2nd place winner, Andrew Bortz, performed two compositions of his own, So Close, and I'll Be There and won a $1000 scholarship. Tyler Millican was the 3rd place winner. She performed Astonishing from Little Women and won a $500 scholarship. Tyler and Andrew attend Twin Falls High School and Tess attends CSI. They'll be joining other Regional winners, including TFHS student Jene Johnson, for the Finals on April 17th at the CSI Fine Arts Center to compete for the $5000 scholarship. 2nd H1N1 Vaccination for Students 10 and Under

If you have a child, ten years old or younger, who received the first H1N1 vaccination at the Twin Falls School District H1N1 Vaccination Clinic, please call 737-1137 to schedule an appointment for the second vaccine. These will take place at South Central Public Health District. Thank you.

Bickel 3rd Graders Receive Dictionaries

Rotarian Mark Koffer delivers dictionaries to the 3rd Grade class of the Bickel Elementary School. Every 3rd grader in the district will receive a dictionary as part of the literacy project adopted by Rotary International.

O'Leary Named as a 2010 Governor's Brightest Star School


Congratulations to O'Leary Middle School for being named as a 2010 Governor's Brightest Star School. Organizations and individuals are chosen based on thier efforts in helping to build a better community through volunteerism. O'Leary was chosen for their work each year in helping to rasie money for the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life." Students Sierra Norman, Austin Dobbs and Dylan Dobbs and employee Michelle Lucas were also nominated for the 2010 Governor's Brightest Star awards.

TFSD Community Partner in Education Award


Each year at graduation, the Twin Falls School District Board of Trustees honors a community business or service agency with the Twin Falls School District Community Partner in Education Award. This year the award was presented to the Twin Falls Education Foundation for their support of Twin Falls School District students, staff and schools.

The Twin Falls Education Foundation was established in 1991 in conjunction with the Twin Falls High School Class of 1971 20-year reunion. Since that time, the Foundation has supported TFSD schools, students and staff with funding to help develop and maintain programs. For example, the Education Foundation has funded an annual grant of $1000 per school, music and agriculture student scholarships, classroom supply funding for each elementary teacher, new pianos and cellos at our schools, conference funding for the speech and debate students, and heart monitors for “all” students during health class.

Superintendent of Schools Wiley Dobbs stated, “While there are many in the community who contribute to public education, our partnership with the Education Foundation has truly enriched the educational experiences of our staff and students.” Superintendent Dobbs presented a plaque to Kathy MacMillan, President of the Twin Falls Education Foundation, for their dedication to and partnership with the Twin Falls School District.

O'Leary Student Holds Nations Best High Jump Mark

Ryan Carlson, and 8th grader at O'Leary Junior High cleared a mark of 6 feet, 1 inch in the high jump at the conference tournament. This mark is better than any other 7th or 8th grade student in the nation. Check out the Times News article:

Linda Watkins Named Education Foundation Director

Linda Watkins has been named as the new Twin Falls Education Foundation Director. Linda has lived in Twin Falls for 21 years, moving here from Missoula, Montana where she was an elementary school teacher. She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Speech Communications and Elementary Education. Her husband, Mitch, and she have owned and operated Watkins Distributing since 1988. Linda has been a substitute teacher and also worked in advertising with Watkins Distributing while volunteering in area schools. She has served on the Library Foundation Board, Co-Chaired the TFSD Long Range Planning Committee and currently sits on the First Federal Bank Foundation Board. The Twin Falls School District looks forward to working with Linda and the Education Foundation.

Harrison and Morningside Multi-Purpose Rooms Complete



The Harrison and Morningside Elementary Multi-Purpose Rooms have been completed and turned over to the Twin Falls School District. Students and teachers will get acquainted and use the facility this month as well as plan for its use in the 2009-2010 school year. Students also be able to have physical education classes and lunch in separate facilities. The Board of Trustees presented each principal with a plaque. Steve Hoy, Principal of Morningside, and Chris Gillette, Principal of Harrison, are pictured above with the Board of Trustees.
